iAmecar ballet poster
Poster for Ballet Freiburg's 1998 production of iAmecar, icAmera, iAmrace, America. Choreographed by Amanda Miller with music by Arto Lindsay. Stage by Seth Tillett. The image used in this poster is a portrait of a free young man taken by abolitionists in Boston in the 1850s to propagandize the cause of Black liberation. At the time of our show it was owned by the Gillman Paper Company who expressly denied us the right to use it in our publicity. I took the liberty of using it anyway on the grounds that it's original goal had not yet been achieved. This magnificent photograph went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY after the Gillman company went bust.
